Innovating towards same goal ......reinventing engineering proposals !

Industry 4.0's evolution into Industry 5.0 marks a significant shift in the European Union's industrial vision, prioritizing not just efficiency and productivity but also societal contributions and worker well-being. This new paradigm embraces technologies to achieve prosperity while respecting planetary boundaries. The distinction between automation and innovation becomes critical in this context, especially in the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) industry. Automation leverages existing technologies to reduce human labor, while innovation focuses on human creativity to introduce new products and services. Industry 4.0's interconnected computers and systems, part of a larger cyber-physical network, signal a move towards autonomous decision-making and green technology. The EPC industry now faces the challenge of reevaluating its processes to align with these advancements, potentially transforming business models and practices to capitalize on digitalization for enhanced growth and accuracy in project proposals and bids.

Digital transformation - The Industry 4.0 buzzword slowly transitioning into the latest Industry 5.0 , where European Union is already working on the Industry 5.0 provides a vision of industry that aims beyond efficiency and productivity as the sole goals, and reinforces the role and the contribution of industry to society.

It places the well-being of the worker at the center of the production process and uses new technologies to provide prosperity beyond jobs and growth while respecting the production limits of the planet.

Differences in Innovation and Automation and its application within the EPC Industry.

Automation is ѕоmеthіng that is automated. It is a рrосеѕѕ of рrоduсtіоn that involves the use of machines, equipment, and computers to reduce the need for human labor. The word automation can be used both in a general and a specific sense. On one hand, it refers to the automation of any system or process.

Let us now emphasize this definition keeping Engineering Industry 4.0 into perspective - Engineering landscape is long reaching out to technologists and Tech industry to "automate" the process to reach their goals. However , have we wondered if we Innovate , things would seem rather simpler than working out existing processes.

In this case let us differentiate between "automation" & "innovation".

• Innovation involves creating new things and putting them into practice for the first time. But automation involves introducing something that has already existed into a system or process.

•Automation is mainly about robotics and uses technology to perform / automate various tasks. However innovation is more about human creativity and using one’s brainpower to come up with something new in the market.

• Innovation іѕ about applying creativity to the process of introducing new products in the market. While automation іѕ about applying existing technology/ies to the process of introducing new products into production.

• Innovation deals more with the design and development of new products and services. But automation, on the other hand, is more about putting the existing designs and technologies into practice for the first time.

Question is : When computers were introduced in Industry 3.0, it was disruptive thanks to the addition of an entirely new technology. Now, and into the future as Industry 4.0 unfolds, computers are connected and communicate with one another to ultimately make decisions without human involvement. A combination of cyber-physical systems, the Internet of Things and the Internet of Systems make Industry 4.0 possible . Ultimately, it's the digital technology and innovation that will lead us to green tech and create and share information that results in the true power of Industry 4.0 & 5.0

While all of the above is being said ,

Is it time for the EPC Industry to truly question the " process" implemented within the organizations to reach the ultimate goal? Is the EPC Industry ready to challenge its own existing process creatively while keeping the same goal?

If yes- It poses another difficult question - For the Industry . - How do they align internally to achieve their business purpose? Will the new creative process challenge their existing business models ?

Data indicates : There is 25% increase usage of business growth based on digitilization.

So lets focus on creating quicker proposals and Bids for all projects closer to accuracy - by implementing projects on IDS(tm)
